This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.
I suggest that you try a detector forum or try to buy a second hand detector on eBay, I did.

If you haven't guessed it yet, this forum is centered around precious metal refining, not hunting.

Hi Cheyennehub, welcome to the forum!

I don't want to encourage too much in the way of further debate as this post is in the wrong place / section, but just to help you on your way, I believe that I can make one or two suggestions based on your apparent situation.

You could try what's called 'sniping'. This is where one looks for nuggets and / or jewelry using nothing more than a few basic tools, your eyes, and if you can splash-out on one, a metal detecting 'pinpointer' (much more affordable than a full-size metal detector).

Sniping involves looking in cracks and crevices in known gold-bearing creeks, or if like myself you happen to be fortunate enough to live next to beaches that get busy in the summer, in cracks on the beach, either on the bottom of sea walls or in frequented rockpools.

Metal detecting pinpointer (just one example) - http://www.amazon.com/Garrett-Pin-Pointer-Pro-Pointer/dp/B005D4V27S

Some information on sniping, there's more out there - http://www.goldfeverprospecting.com/crsnforgo.html

One time I was on the beach with a few friends and I was trying to explain to them how easy it is, they seemed unsure, so up to the seawall I went and started feeling around in the cracks near the bottom with nothing more than my fingers, on that occasion I found a bunch of keys and about £1 in change in around a minute or so. Metal's heavy, it's sinks, simply feel your way down to it.

Just try to remember, it's not a get rich quick scheme, it's just a bit of fun, 8)

All the best with it, and good luck,

Chris

I am pretty sure this person joined just to post a non-URL post advertising their detector website.
I think so too, but decided to let it be for the time. (Post is locked and without signature just to stop him from coming back later and add a link just in case he is a spammer.)

Cheyennehub, if you're not a spammer, don't feel bad, it's nothing personal. We get a lot of spam from detector makers and we remove it as soon as it is seen, and I read every post on this forum.

And now he's gone, second post proved beyond doubt that he was a spammer.
