While I have yet to venture in the wild world of gold refining, I am slowly planning my journey by means of careful research and the honing of my chemistry skills. At the same time, I am doing my best to find good deals on various items containing gold so that when I feel ready I will at least have some material to work with.

While I have millions of questions about the process itself, I don't think now is a good time to begin asking. However, one thing I can't find on this forum (search function isn't really that good, or maybe its me) is any real information about Drop Ingot Nuggets. For starters, how much gold do they generally contain, if any? Secondly, what exactly are they, and is there any reason to collect them?

Judging by the price at which they sell, I assume that nobody is interested in working with them. So, assuming I am right, why is that? If I am wrong, why are they so cheap?

I see that people have forgotten about those things, again judging on price, but I am curious as to why. I can't find any information on them anywhere. Is it just difficult to extract, are they simply fake, maybe there is so little gold in them that it makes no sense? Why are they so universally ignored?

I would consider them fake and not worth your time. I would even venture to say they might even be de-plated pins melted into ingots. they will still have gold on them just next to nothing.
search ebay blobs

Where in the us are you?

I see, thank you for the explanation. I will browse around the forum some more before I post more questions, I am still very new at this. I have read through some of the tutorials already, but I think my primary concern at this point is to find a good source.

I am in the Washington DC area, which poses another interesting problem ... where to setup shop. I live in a very residential area, so doing it anywhere near my home is out of the question. This will be a fun ride, I'm sure.

Sorry, I do have one other question. Seeing as how I have never done this before, I figured that these drop ingots would work as a great 'test run'. I was hoping to use these to lose my virginity with, is that a bad idea? If so, why (outside of the remarkably low yield)?

Why? because you will get no measurable results. You will waste your time and chemicals on nothing.

The standard first project for escrap is memory and card fingers. You can see the gold all the way through the process.

if they are pins from slot connectors, they have a high percentage of tin. the pins are made of phosphor bronze. it would have been better to used a stripping cell on those pins.

Understood, I will avoid them like the plague. Judging by the content of the posts on this forum, I can't go wrong by trusting you people.

On that note, I am off to find gold to pull from computer parts. Hopefully it will not prove too futile, and more importantly I hope I don't die when following that last step, drinking the Hydrochloric waste. Wish me luck!

... yeah, kidding about the whole drinking bit. Obviously, you only swirl it around in your mouth ;)

Word of advise dude, jokes like that don't usually fly that well around here

Absolutely right! This is one of those times when something should be deleted or edited out of a post.
