While educating myself on the AP (acid peroxide) method, I came across a term : "SMB" what does that mean?

How/where can I get Muriatic acid?

Am I correct in assuming the if NOT heated, this will dissolve everything BUT the gold Im trying to get my hands on??

THANKS!!!

SMB is sodium metabisulfide.
It's used to precipitate your gold if in solution.

You can get Muriatic acid at Lowes.

And you are correct to say that Acid peroxide won't dissolve your gold if not heated. But you can test with steannous chloride to see if there is any in solution.

Just remember AP will heat up when mixed.

All the basic vocabulary and reaction information can be found in the Guided Tour link in my signature line.
