I emailed Lou offering him just under an ounce of platinum precipitant, did get a reply so I guess he is not buying small lots at the moment. Or may not from Canadians.
I am assuming here that what you guys/gals are referring to is Ammonium hexachloroplatinate. Even if you achieve .999 purity and have washed any excess salts away and have forced dried your yellow salt it is only 44% platinum metal.
The above is far from easy to achieve but I wished to put it out there so someone is not disappointed at their return when they do sell. In other words, 1 troy ounce of even some of the best Ammonium hexachloroplatinate is only about 13.6grams of fine platinum.
Keeping the above in mind, Ammonium hexachloropalladate of similar quality will only run about 30% palladium metal.
I dried mine and did loose a little bit of paper in it so I figured i would also loose a gram there....I can post a picture....I followed steves video...I have someone around here that sent it out for an assay but i havent gotten the results yet....Are you interested in it oz? I also have about 10 grams of pgm's that i dropped out with zinc and i didn't go any further with it...
I have little interest in smaller quantities of platinum as it is difficult to re-sell at a decent price in quantities of less than 3-5 ounces of metal. If I had enough on hand to combine for a sale it might be different. Sorry.
Lou I can understand your hesitancy over buying salts it's the difference of the expectancy of the seller and the reality of what's there.
How would you advise members to get small amounts of pgms into a form that you would buy if they can't get a button of high purity?
In my refining past all pgms I encountered were melted with copper to lower the melting point, assayed, reasonable cost here, and sold. Would this work for you ,do you have access to an xrf that could lower costs? I know this is a step backwards but I was wondering if this would allow clarity for both buyer and seller and allow you to buy a product you obviously excel with and have markets for and would serve the members of the forum equally well having a trusted outlet for their pgms.
Assays seem to be convenient in GB as well as cost effective, not so in the US. As to form, personal opinion, I would far rather have to remove excess salts or zinc from PGM than copper. Even from a practical side of the small producer, copper cementations can be finely divided and sticky to deal with from the chloride.
I will reiterate here that I would trust Lou for $100,000.00 of my own material without concern as to honesty or ethics.

I would second that.....
My suggestions were only so as to give clarity, as I'm sure we have all encountered sellers with over estimates as to what is in their scraps and I'm sure Lou doesn't need the hassle but might like extra business.
If other methods will give clarity for all parties involved then please post them,I'm the first to admit little or no knowledge of pgm refining I'm just trying to find a way for members to trade with ease and complete clarity which avoids pointless disagreements and gives a product that Lou or any other buyer will be happy with.
I have only been a member here since January but....I have learned more here than I have anywhere on the net. I have read through alot of the posts, downloaded the hokes book, learned of Steves dvds and receive much needed advice. I have seen that lou and alot of other members here have earned alot of respect and trust. I also know that I am not an expert, not even close. If lou tells me there isn't 15 grams. I trust that . I am very comfortable doing business on here, this is where I learn.
