Im new to this forum but Ive been collecting gold scrap for a while now. I buy surplus at auctions and sell what i can and scrap the rest. I usually scrap copper wire and aluminum from police lightbars that are junk and i cant resell. I get pallets of old electronics sometimes just to get the 1 item I need, then part the electronics for wire, aluminum or gold. either way i have about 2.5lbs of this stuff so far.

Now I have right now about 300 Motorola radios that got drilled and the logic boards are no good. The radios are old and no replacement parts exist, the other parts are good and use them to replace other radios. The boards have chips with the gold and the side buttons have a flex ribbon type wire with gold contract pic #2. should i just cut the round contacts or does the whole flex have gold conductor?

I plan on selling the scrap but want it to have the least amount of non-gold scrap as possible. Like I said i have 300 or so and part out 1-4 a day depending on how many other radios I fix.

Words of advice.......If you are not into processing, then offer all of the boards for sale here on the forum or to a member. It sometimes takes weeks to simply learn the basics. Then it can take months getting used to everything.....and no doubt will take years to master a few things. Some of the founding members of the forum have been processing for several decades, and still learn new things from time to time.
If you choose the route of selling the material you have a couple of choices, you can take pictures and weight and post the material in the catagory "Sell or trade" and either have members make an offer or you can put a desired price,or you can list the stuff on ebay(good luck if you do).You will probably make the most money if you list the material and have members make offers. If you are looking for money fast, then you should look for a local refiner that can buy them directly, however you may take a large hit on the value.Just curious......where are you?

P.S.If you choose to try to recover and refine the precious metals yourself, start your journey here http://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/download/file.php?id=2480 .There is a plethora of information within. This is the refiners bible, get to know it well.Above everything you do here........always take the time to be safe and be careful.

Ive read up on processing and i know i can learn it but i don't have room and don't get enough to make it worth my wild. I do plan on selling it probably here, I sell on ebay under uman18 (lightbars/two way radio gear), but of course here on this forum people know exactly what to look for.

I don't mind taking the things apart I guess my concern is more the flex ribbon. I should just save it all then and let the buyer decide how to break it down.

Im in So California, thanks for the info Johnny.

You're welcome.
There are several members that aren't too far from you that still process.I'm sure if you decide to list the material fro sale you may be contacted be one or more of them.
