Went to 2 different auctions yesterday to buy gold..... 1st auction was a bust, only got one ring and a small pin, and a small piece of 8K.... took off from that one around noonish and went to another, I got there just as the finished selling "all the gold" according to another person there. There was over 40 lots of costume jewelry there still so I started poking around and found a couple nice pieces that were plainly marked... Normally I try to weigh before I buy at auction so I know what to pay, but I did not want to alert the other buyers who were still there... so I bought a couple boxes of junk which I knew was junk to make it look like I was just buying costume and waited out the locals, ended up buying 2 boxes with gold in them for $90 total..... Got 13 DWT gold (10 dwt 14K and 3 dwt of 10K, plus almost an ounce of sterling) just over $500 in gold at the 90% I normally sell at... I do have a buyer in NYC that pays 98-99% but need over 2 oz to justify travel.... Thats what I call SCORE!! I picked the pin and the 8K out of a $20 box I had my daughter buy at the 1st auction.... (let her buy when possible because it seems she can buy cheaper than I can as long as I walk away and let her buy) It seems people around here have a soft spot for a 14 yr old girl buying jewelry.... LOL. MY secret weapon.... and I am off somewhere else just in case I need to step in and take over...
