I've been lurking the forums for quite a while, learning and learning... I can get escrap for free, albeit very slowly, and have been processing what little I could get over the past 6+ months. Well, the time has come and I finally have a little gold button to show for! 15.6g! Woohoo! :)

I know that's laughable to most of you guys, but hey, I had a great time learning and tinkering. Now I'd like to sell it and do something nice for my family. I live in N. Houston area and was wondering if you guys know of anyone who would be willing to take this off of my hands for a reasonable price?

I'm not on a war path to get the highest % possible, but I won't let anyone take advantage either, y'know? I'm just a regular Joe hobbyist who wants to take part in the final step of the game - selling. :)

Thanks to all on GRF who guided me this far. Especially lazersteve - I'm your biggest fan! :)

Thanks!

We have an office in Houston:
8598 Westheimer
Houston, TX 77063
Office: (713) 974 - 1892

Feel free to ask for Sam, and tell them Miguel sent you. We would be more than happy to assay the button for you, and if you like the reading, we will go ahead an remelt/reassay the gold and do the settlement right then and there. All in front of you, in and out within a 30 minutes.

I just drove out to Hi Tech PMR, only to be told by the lady behind the glass that they don't sell to the public. Miguel, I dropped your name like you suggested and she had no idea who you are! Never heard of you. Granted, I didn't ask for Sam because I'd forgotten that you mentioned him, but "we don't sell to the public" is kind of a conversation-ender. Why on earth did you suggest I go out there if your company won't even deal with me? Not cool, dude!

Anyway, she suggested I go down the street to this place called something like "Texas Watch and Diamond." By now I'm thinking 'oh geez, here we go...' So since I'd driven all that way, I figured I'd go ahead and give them a try. So I went there - the guy ended up offering me $452 for it. I gave him a look, not a mean look, but one of clear disapproval. He then proceeded to tell me about Texas state law, and how he's required to hold onto it for 10 days... Sigh. It basically went EXACTLY the way I thought it would. He low-balls me - I say get real - he replies with one of many canned rebuttals filled with industry jargon... I grabbed my button and walked out. Even if what he said is true (please do not turn this into a laws and regulations thread), bottom line is this: I drove all the way out there just to get jerked around and ultimately offered 70.6% of spot.

3 hours of my life I'll never get back.

I feel horrible for wasting your time. I know there is nothing I can say to regain those 3 hours - but hopefully a little explanation regarding our policy might help clarify what happened.

Hi-Tech PMR (and most reputable refineries) do not deal with the public or individuals. This is for a few reasons as we are a B2B industry, but more importantly, if we allowed individuals to sell us gold - that is competing directly with our clients who are buying from the public (which in turn hurts their business, and not something we are looking to do). However, since I represent the company on this site, I have allowed exceptions for Forum members who refine their gold (not just raw scrap) as you all deserve to be paid at a higher settlement than average joe just cashing in their old jewelry.

As the Northern Regional Sales Manager for HTPMR, I never visit the Houston location which would explain why the receptionist does not know who I am - which is why I recommended asking for the Branch Manager, Sam. He would have either called me and I could have explained the situation, or by simply mentioning my name he would have allowed it.

Again, I apologize for the miscommunication and wasting your time - and if I can make it up to you in any way, please let me know how.

Miguel,

Thanks for responding. As you mentioned, I should have asked for Sam like you said. That was a memory failure on my part that I can't rightfully pin on you, but I appreciate your attempt to take responsibility.

Thanks!

Congratulations on a job well done sir! After refining your weight came out to be 15.5 grams.
