This is the bible of the plating industry. It comes out annually, but the info doesn't change much from year to year. I have the 1968 and 2004 issues in my library and I use both all the time. Until recently, there was an online copy available on metalfinishing.com, but no more. You can get a free hard copy subscription to the mag and the Guidebook (only comes out in the spring - better hurry!) on that site if you can fill out the form in a way to make them believe you are a plater.

I just found a free copy of the 2002 Guidebook at Google Books. I was shocked to discover it - usually you can only find the real old ones. It runs about 950 pages. There is a big overlap between plating and refining, so there is much info in it that can be used by the refiner. For example, starting on page 434 is a chapter on stripping metallic coatings from various substrates. There are chapters on things like rectifiers, agitation, filtration, waste disposal, analysis, coloring of metals, identification of metals, plating bath formulas, etc., etc. The Table of Contents is interactive, which makes things easy to find.

Near the upper right corner, click on PDF to download. It's a large download (60+ megs), but you won't regret it.

Look on the top right side of the screen for the arrow pointing down and the letters PDF. Click in that box. 68mb file size

I have no idea why you're not seeing what the rest of us are seeing. Maybe some setting in your browser(s). Try this link. It's a little different. I should know this but, are you in the U.S.?

At that link, can you see the Table of Contents? I can. Can you read the book online at that link? No PDF near the upper right corner? Can you do a screen shot of that page?

It took about 13 minutes here.

If you have used a piece of Perkin Elmer equipment that was built between 1948 and 1979, There's a good chance that many of the parts were processed by my dad. He was a metal finisher there for 32 years.

I have it posted here. http://www.scribd.com/doc/26231041/Metal-Finishing-Guidebook-and-Directory

Ralph,

I'm glad you did that. When you search Google Books for that title, it says it was written in 1903. I think maybe Google thought it was that old, for some reason, and screwed up when they made it Full View. Actually, I think the first issue came out in 1903. I think that once MF finds out their 2002 edition is on there, it will be off there.

Hi Chris
THis is a fantastic directory and for me it is very useful

Steve and Palladium
