The other day someone gave me a bunch of old hardware made in late 80's and early 90's:

- 2 X Sun Microsystems model 511 from 1987
- 2 X Sun Microsystems model 247 from 1989
- HP C1711C from 1993
- Hitachi/Todd Enterprises TCDR-4000

Is there much in the way of PM or other scrap in them? They all weigh like a pile of bricks which I guess means a lot of steel but that's not what I am looking for of course...

Thanks.

Part of the adventure of being an urban gold miner is the thrill
of cracking open old PC's, servers, etc. to see what kind of things
are hiding inside.

The Sun systems will probably have some nice chips hiding under
heat sinks.

Have fun!!

In the pile of miscellaneous stuff that came with the boxes I also found this old harddrive. The picture shows is next to a regular HDD. I think it was pulled from a Sherman tank. :)

Anyway, do you know what these copper-colored disks are made of and if they are any more valuable than disks from regular HDDs?

Thanks.

Take a look at this website http://www.harddrives-usa.com/home.php

I'm not sure how legit it is but if it's legit it gives you an idea what these HDD's are worth, it also means ive got a few thousand bucks worth of HDD's sitting in my cupboard.

Read closely it says referbished or new ,,,,.. These are under warrenty for 90 days;;;; they are not used, that will mean a lot in price and i did not see where they WANT to buy HD's.
