Hi all..

So far, as i am new into this, i am collecting computer scrap part from here to there at a cost of free.

I harvest for good part and try to recycle as much possible the rest. All my good part are than sorted in bucket so when enough and ready to process it will be easier.

But free computer part dont rain over here (in the wood) or there is plenty other people who take care of garbage :(

So i am in lack of materials. I tried to call some computer repair place and small jewelry but they seem all the have there own buyer and wont tell me more or price.

Here where i need your advise.. I went to a place where they recycle computer (like with school kids for other country) and they guy i talked with is willing to sell complete non functional computer (all part are there) at 10$ / computer. I told him there was allot of stuff in a computer that i dont need. So he told me he could sell me separate part per pound.

My 2 question would be..

from what i have read in here.. a complete computer if done well could yield for around 15-20$
So if that correct i still would make some little profit and maybe even with materials and products. Would it be good to me to buy some at 10$ unit so i get practice ?

and for separate part, i did quick try with the Catfish method to calculate some part.. but this would only give me a idea of the gold on a certain piece. Is there a place that they show what price they buy back (here in canada i dint found anything good.. i did but it seem they dont event know the value of their product). I could buy : CPU, Mother Board, Mem Ram, TV Audio Graphic card, cd and hard drive board..

tank you if you can open my eye on this

nop, average today computer is more 6-10$ each ,when you go older you get better ,dont forget that old mobos are worth around 4.00$lbs and newer one 2.50$lbs,the power supply doesnt weight 4lbs anymore, now 2lbs is more realistic, metal is thinner, memory lighter, etc you understand what i mean...

if you need to train does what other poeple that doesnt have the choice do... buy on ebay over the real value price(why do you think price are so hight on ebay??). and continue gattering free stuff until you know how much you can offer per pounds of each material
good luck

as far as home PC it is low end if you plan to pay for scrap talk to businesses that deal in better scrap telecom or machining repair shops I got a few hundred pounds of boards from Mitsubishi controllers that were found in the trash by a scrapper friend. They had more ICs on one side than MB have on the whole board. I also got some finger boards from engravers. Industrial boards are where the money is not home PCs

Get some scraper friends I buy my boards from them for $1 a pound (that's the going rate at the scrap yards)and I do all the breaking down for them sort and give back. and when the find stuff they think I would want they sell it to me at $1 pound I got 2.75# of clean pins for $5 (brass price) 1.25# new MMC for free most scrappers want to make money but most like to trade I do a lot of trading for other metal I have. I also use them for finding other stuff that I need and pay them for that stuff to.

scrap is out there PCs on a small scale are junk dont pay more than $0.20 a pound for complete computers unless its a truck load than pay a little more and cherry pick the ones you want don't take them all.

I do this and I have more than I can use most of the time.

many tank Jim, that will help me to put a price on a pound .. :)

ebay can be good if your lucky.. paying over price do i am not really interested. Paying the exact price is not so bad to me as it a kind of placement (as long price dont go down)

the guy offer me some price..

how many (aproximatly) memory bar for 1 pound of finger (still witll the board but cutted closely)
