new hypodermic needles? any Pt?

Has anyone run a platinum test on new hypo needles?


I was reading the Hoke bible and saw they are 20% pt and iridium.. but that was back then....
My mom has been a nurse for 20 years and has boxes full of them that she brings home, she's got like 5 or 6 thousand of them.


I'll run a test on them, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows for sure before I do it. I'm guessing they are stainless now days but if not :mrgreen:

It's worth a look.

The valuable ones have not been used in decades but there are still a few floating around. The good ones are all metal. You can give them a flame test.

Heat them in a reducing flame and the Pt ones will glow brightly and be still be un-oxidized after they cool.

Most hypodermic needles made in the last 50 years are stainless steel.

This company has a local office here and they process this type of material. I did some work for them a couple of times. I got to know the manager at that time and them was no mention of any PM's inthese items. That was about 11 years ago. I wouldn't think much has changed.
