Hello all,

Recently got into scrapping about six months ago from the suggestion of a buddy. Since then made my first and somewhat disorganized run of AL and Steel yielding just over a few hundred pounds.

Had not taken my brass or copper scrap yet, wanted to test the waters with the other metals first. Also I am big into E-waste recycling. I am an IT dork my profession, and always have tons of tech laying around. Never got rid of much since I knew there was a lot of precious metals in the good old parts.

Looking forward to doing a lot of reading and learning. As of now the only thing I need to figure out next is to strip cable or just turn it in for its insulated price....

Hello Prototype

Welcome here and hope you enjot as much as the rest of us.
This forum is mainly PM (Precsious Metals) related, you will find neat tips and tricks to just about anything any of us can think of or wish to share with the rest.
I was am be a IT guy once... And yes, there's alittle of everything in circuit boards. Look in the Where to find section.. It's lengthy but will supprise you to what you will find where...
Scrapping is 1 thing. I do that for extra cash. But gathering and refinning PMs are a whole new ball game.READ and learn about it here.

As an answer to your direct question on wire stripping. I get $.98 / lb. for insulated wier and $2.98 / lb. just today... Is it worth the time and effort?... NO... unless you don't have anything else to do for extra cash, like me at the moment. I watch movies here in the garage with a razor blade pinched in a clothes pin held with the vice. I pull wire through it and it deeply scratches the housing so it rips right apart. Quick and about the cheapest and fastest device for this I've found.

Good luck and always enjoy what you do.
BS.
Lookin at the dreaded pile of waiting to be stripped wire...
