Since you are new we have some study material for you.
We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.

2. Then read the safety section of the forum: Safety
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: Dealing with Waste

Welcome to the site! Regardless of your eductation or experience in other areas of chemistry, Ms. Hokes' book is indispensible. Ten plus years into this and I still have this happen. And I still learn new things just about every day.year into this hobby and I'm still discovering "Oh! That's why they told me to do it this way".
Everyone on this forum is well educated and very helpful with detailed explanations on all aspects of refining. The people here have helped me out so much especially with newbie questions, then giving a full brief on technical items that a layperson can understand. I want to thank Jeff from Lithic metals for turning me on to this forum. What a pillar of strength this place is.
