So i have a guy that likes to trade me material he gets out of plating baths for work.
First stuff he brought me was really thick gold "leaf". He says its a liquid gold that goes in a bath and then they add whatever needs to be plated into it. He scrapes whatever sticks to the drum off and brings me some.

Somehow he says platinum ended up in the wrong bath with the gold and screwed everything up.
First pic is the platinum and gold mix "leaf"

2nd stuff he brought is to be gold that is scraped off nickel heaters? I know nothing about plating, sorry.

So far with a little heat, it definitely has that nice gold color.
2nd batch should be a straight forward refine if i ever get around to it.

What do you guys think of the first batch? (Pill bottle)
Ive done gold with minimal problems but ive never messed with platinum..
Melted blob is 22.4g

Edit.. forgot to add the melted gold/plat blob 🤦🏽‍♂️

You should refine the material and use ferrous sulphate to precipitate your gold , you will probably need to do this twice, be aware PGM salts are highly toxic so a fume hood gloves and care is needed, your waste solutions containing the Pt should be put into the stockpot with copper present to cement it out which then renders it back to metallic form.

Roger that. Time to break out the ol equipment boxes and knock the dust off. Hopefully can get everything set back up in the next couple weeks.
Appreciate you 👍🏼
