Hi all. I'm new to this process, so please be gentle. :D I started out by wanting to make a gold solution, that I could use in gilding glass. I have some commercial products I purchased last winter, but when I went to use it, it took 1/2 of the solution (which was supposed to do 8 sq. ft, but only did 1 so far. In all honesty, I probably screwed up when I prepared the glass (cleaning). So, being a guy who likes too buck the system and do it all myself, I find myself in possession of a gallon of 30% nitric acid and a liter of HCL and some of my wife's jewelry. Now, how do I make AR and how do I get it to stick to glass. I have other chemicals that came with the gilding chemicals, like gold activator (Sodium (1) carbonate anhydrous) and gold reducer (formaldehyde). Thanks for any info. I can get.

I am not sure that this post belongs in the Introduction section of the forum. I cannot answer your question either because I am not sure what the original gold solution (for plating on glass) consists of. If you could find the MSDS for it that would be your starting point. Reading and understanding Hoke (which there are numerous links to on the forum) will be your Yellow Brick Road.

That said, welcome to the forum!
