Newbie here.
As previously directed on this forum I followed directions and did a lot of post reading and searching.
I also downloaded Hokes and skimmed it and then settled in to read chapters 12 and 13.

Here is my issue.
I have 6.7 ounces of buttons (8 buttons) which came from my fathers estate, he owned a small dental lab.
The scrap gold has long since been sold off.

The buttons have been tested at a repetuable jewellers using the x ray test methed at 40.27% Palladium and 59.72% Bismuth.
I decided that a one shot home chemical extraction process (Hokes) was best left to others and not really in my best interests health and safety wise.
Bismouth it would seem from some posts also may be slightly problematic in the recovery process.

I have phoned a couple of refineries and they all say the same thing " a Bismuth Palladium alloy...never heard of that before, weird".
I have been quoted either either 80 to 85% of recovery by one refiner and another quoted $150 processing and then 90% of recovery.
But after reading a lot of posts about folks who seemed to come out on the short end after the refiners got there goods I have become slightly paranoid.

I am on Vancouver Island Canada and I really dont think I am going to be able to visit any dealers or refineries in person.
I am thinking I need to just put it all in the mail to a refiner, probably in the States, and hope just for the best.

Any advice or input would be very much appreciated.

trexx,

I think you're wise not to try it yourself.

The rates aren't all that bad considering the total value of your lot. There aren't many refiners who actually process PGMs, and they usually don't handle small lots. 40% of 6.7 ounces is only 2.68 ounces of palladium. At $800.00 an ounce, that's $2,144.00. At 85%, the refiner is making $321.60.

Lou might be able to help you if he comes along.

Dave

I've run much dental, but never with that high of bismuth (usually traces), which is always a concern in our processes.
What probably has happened is the XRF is confused because he has no standards to run against.

You can PM me and I'd be happy to at least look at the material.

Regards,

Lou

If Lou does not want it, I will gladly buy it.
