Hello--

I'm new to this forum and am interested in learning more about typical precious metal concentrations and market prices paid for different types of electronic scrap, in particular, PCBs. My understanding is that there are about a half dozen grades ranging from low-end stuff like printers up to cell phones and military spec, and that gold content can range from 20-50 g/t up to 500 g/t. But I'm not clear on how market prices match gold/PM content (e.g. if a board contains about $5 worth of precious metals, will it be sold outright for some percent of that value? I am sure it's case by case but looking for a general rule of thumb...).

Anyhow, any info that people are willing to share will be MUCH appreciated, and I will be happy to exchange what my own findings are as I continue to scan the internet/speak with people. Either respond to me here or feel free to send me an email directly: [email protected]

Thank you for your time!

Bryce

Hi Geo!

Thanks for the post. I have checked out BoardSort and they seem to have good info on prices for grades, but nothing on corresponding PM content. Any links to resources on that?

Thanks and best!

Bryce

Precious metal content of computers or any electronic scrap varies so widely that I doubt you will be able to find a rule that works. There are many other metals, along with the PMs, that are also harvested such as Copper, Aluminum, Steel, and so on. Where you get the information to determine market value will vary widely too. For example: one pound of Gold plated pins may bring $150.00 or more on E-Bay, but may only contain $50.00 worth of Gold. :|
