The way Steve preps his graphite mold by coating it with smoke prior to pouring looks like it works like a charm for releasing the gold from the mold. Problem is, I don' t use oxy/acetylene. Is there another way to help ensure poured metal falls right out without sticking to the mold?

Thanks as always,

Preston

I have never had problems with a graphite mold releasing the bar, whether it was smoked or not. I smoked the bar when I wanted it to look more excellent. This was especially true when casting silver bars.

I use MAPP, and I simply use a candle to soot the graphite while holding the mold upside down with a set of tongs. I have not tried to pour gold yet, but it works well with silver. I did notice that it came out a little easier.

Regards,
Tom
