I'm new here but not new to metals. Over the years I've (like many of you) have been making contacts with people that have proven to be honest and reliable when it comes to business. I stick to bank procedures, contracts, etc. I verify, verify and verify.

So here goes....long time friend (for 30 years) runs an import/export company, longtime family business in Ghana ( I can hear you sighing already) and here in the states. My longtime friend has been living in Ghana the last 25 years, he is of Ghanian decent. I asked him recently if he had contacts with some of the Co Ops in the alluvial business and he of course said yes. He knows quite a few PMMC registered dealers that go out to the mines to purchase dore in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Liberia.

I'm still in the verifying stages right now, but it seems to me that if there is a little discount, proper documents, CIF, assay here before bank wire, contracts and run with PMMC....it should be fine, right?

Some of our trade offs will be that we are importing to Ghana machinery, concrete, petroleum lubricants, replacement parts for heavy machinery, etc and more or less getting favorable(discount) treatment from miners for sourcing their supplies at cost plus shipping, etc.

Any constructive thoughts???????

One of the early members of this forum thought he could deal with import gold, too. At last report, all he had accomplished was to lose money.

I have not spoken to him in about 18 months. His absence from not only the forum, but from my life, is a strong indicator to me that everything he had been told about not getting involved was good advice.

I can't speak for you, or your friend. The only thing I know is I'd run like the wind.

By the way, this individual was also involved with machinery. To my knowledge, that didn't pan out either, but I may be mistaken.

Sorry, I know you're hoping to find words of encouragement, but it has been my life long experience that money never pursues people---it's people that pursue money. You could easily fall prey to a scam artist. They are exceedingly skillful at what they do.

It sounds like you are thinking of shipping the dore here, then selling it to a refiner.

How can you make that cost effective over the mines simply having their dore refined right there in Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Liberia, thus bypassing both the dealers and you?
