I run a gold & silver buying store. I have been using Dillon Gage Refiners but I seem to be getting some low payouts. I just sent in 143 troy ounces of sterling scrap. I tested every piece with acid and removed all weight and stones (except for perhaps a few tiny ones).
After melt they told me I had only 132 ozt. This means I lost 8% during melt.
Then the assay showed only 86.9% pure silver.
When all was said and done I ended up with just 80% pure on my sterling silver lot.
Do these numbers seem realistic?
I would love to hear others recommendations for a trustworthy refiner with good payouts.
Thanks!
