Refining scrap to pure gold?

It is possible to refine 10k, 14k, and 18k into .9999 gold. I'm not looking to make a qiuck buck. I want to learn how to refine scrap gold.
Should I use Aqua Regia technique, to recover and refine the gold to purest form.

If so, should I melted down the scrap gold to buttons/ingot? Then start the Aqua Regia process or what..
Theres alot of good info on this web page. I would appreciate any help or comments.

The best help you'll get is to read Hoke's book. It starts with the basics and explains things in terms a novice can understand. You need not have a chemical background, or even an education in chemstry.

Once you understand the refining process, you can then apply some of the work-arounds that the forum promotes. They take the place of processes that are now difficult, if not impossible, due to the necessary reagents no longer being easily purchased. Nitric acid is one of them.
