I recently aquired about 300 military spec relays dated 1968. I was reading the specs on them and the literature states that the contacts are phospor bronze with gold inlay. Is there a difference between gold plating and gold inlay?

UHH yea.

Gold plating: The item is plated with gold.
Gold inlay: The item has a small point inlayed at the area of contact with the other point.
