seperation of gold and iron

hi users i have some gold coated pins from some printers i would like to know the best possible way to separate this gold from the iron pins. i have been using nitric acid to seperate gold from copper is there a simmilar way for the iron treatment as well????

Is not there a copper pre-coating? Anyway A/P will help
