Hello all,

My name is John and I am 28 years old. I live in the midlands U.K. My hobbies are astronomy and now anything gold related  I work for a company that make gas sensing equipment fixed and portable. At work I am an engineer doing a good mix of things lathe work, drilling, gold plating, maintenance, making random stuff and arsing about. I love my job! I have kids and a partner I love them too  I found this forum while searching for a company that would refine my plated items and decided to stay and learn.

Astronomy! I loved spending time with my two children in the front yard looking at constellations with an old "map" laid on the grass. Welcome in!

If you like astronomy you might want to take a look at this web site  http://www.willowberry.net/keithnk_m42/ of astro photography (and astronomy in general) the web site belongs to my brother who is/has been into astronomy big time as long as I can remember - he just finished building a new observatory this last fall

I have been on his site before very good site awesome pictures too. Id like to buy a GOTO mount and a decent canon camera when I have some cash together but that's bottom of my list at the minute. Ill ad a picture of my telescope OTA and a pic or two I have taken. In mind this was taken with a camera phone not a top notch camera and without a tracking mount. I also use a modified webcam but that's my limit as far as the tech bit goes

Nice John

Here is the pic from my brothers web site that I have always liked the most (though he has a lot of really cool pics) I have always liked this one because he compares his to the one taken with Hubble - whats interesting about the Hubble picture is that they actually changed the color of some of the spectra to give an overall pleasing composition, and to help visually distinguish the elements - in other word - they (Hubble) actually doctored the picture to get it to look like that

you have to scroll down to read what he (my brother) has written about it

Very impressive. He also has some pictures of m42 Orians nebular. He has taken a number of pictures exposed over a period of time (using a tracking mount) through the night and staked them using a stacking program, which gives far more detail than a single picture with an exposure time of less than a second (like mine  ) and his camera is far superior to my Sony xperia z phone  all in all a very very good site and skilled person.

Now I am going to stop looking at his amazing pictures because the order of priorities are getting blurred, the wanting of a decent DSLR camera and tracking mount is beginning to bug me

Ahhh one more thing this is the mount I made to fix my camera phone to the scope for taking photos. I didn't like having to hold the phone and keep it steady 8)

John

Thats actually I nice mount you made up there to take pics with your phone

like I said earlier - Keith has been doing this for as long as I can remember - he is 6 years older then me & I think I was about 9 years old when he would get me to help him pack his equipment out & set it up - back then Keith was buying lenses & mirrors from Edmonds Scientific & building his own scopes - he is now 64 so equipment comes over time

Here is an interesting note that a lot of people are not aware of - a few years ago Keith gave me a DVD - I think it was a PBS Nova program - it was called "93% of the universe is missing" (or 90 some %)

The fact is that when they take everything that they can see &/or detect out there - with all the sophisticated equipment they have - & they ad it all up - they can only account for less then 10% of the universe

They have a number of different theories - but they can't really prove any of them ---- that just blows my mind & goes to show that as much as we think we know we still have a lot to figure out --- I mean if 90 some % of the picture is missing - where is it - what is it & what is its cause & effect ???

So keep looking - you might be the one to find it
