okay, i know the title is a bit wordy, but i was thinking about something i read a while back about a silver impregnated elastomer... I usually see these with the sun ultrasparc cpus... its the Kapton film with white nubs that are between the PCB and the CPU.

It came up again today in some reading, and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with recovering the silver out of the elastomer. has anyone tried? This is what they look like.

That's going to be one of those deals where they will recover what ever metal that cap is made from and the silver recovery, if any, would come as a byproduct of that process. Try the manufacturer website and look up the product data sheet. It will tell you what it's made of.

just came across some of these the other day,i took a couple to the local salvage yard and asked them to test them.they tested them with a xrf analyzer and it came up ag 96.09% here is a picture of what else there composed of

Remember that an XRF only tells you about the elements that it can see and is programmed for. No oxygen, nitrogen or hydrogen is shown. Neither any silicon or carbon.

Measure the weight, incinerate and take another measurement of the weight. Then leach with nitric and see how much silver there really is.
