I am having trouble finding a refinery that processes silver material mixed with cadmium. The refinery that I use for processing my gold has a 15lb weight limit for processing silver mixed with cadmium, and I have a little over 3lbs. The material is 47% silver with 26% cadmium. I have contacted a number of refineries on the east coast, a couple on the west coast and one in Illinois and none have returned my calls so I'm feeling slightly discouraged. Any suggestions?

I'm not surprised you are having trouble trading this material, melting this is extremely hazardous and needs doing witht he right environmental controls. The refineries probably won't even melt it but dissolve it to rid the material of the cadmium, you might advertise it here on the forum either for sale or for toll refining, there probably would be interest.

Learn to refine it your self
That IS what this forum is all about after all 8)

If you still want someone to refine it for you, I can do it. How are you wanting the finished silver. As bars, crystals, powder or shot :?:

I would not recommand refining stuff containing Cd.. unless you really know your way around the process inclusing all safety concerns. Also, there's the disposale issue, one MUST ship Cd waste to an approved hazardous waste facility.

I'm receiving some materials for refining which contain Thalium salts, safety wise, i'm treating it like it was plutonium

Instead of a refinery, have you though about selling it back to brazing manufacturers?
They melt and alloy Cd on a daily basis, i'm sure they wouldn't mind buying metals at slightly under Fix. all the y have to do is re-melt and adjust the alloy.
Try Lucas Milhaupt (formerly Wolverine Joining Technologies).

Though, i'm not sure 3lb will draw their attention... but worth a shot.

I work for a refiner that doesn't process anything with Cadmium in it because of all the safety concerns. And unfortunately the 3lbs might not be enough for a company that will process it.

Contacting a company that works with it is a great suggestion. Umicore Technical Materials in Attleboro, MA uses it a lot. You may want to try contacting them. I know they send their scrap back to Umicore in Europe, but they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Also Advanced Chemical Company in Warwick, RI has a lot of capabilities with refining hazardous materials. I'm not sure if you've contacted them yet, but they would be another one I would reach out to.

Let me know if you need any other suggestions and I will see what I can find for you!

I'm pretty sure Lucas won't take it. They don't make most or any of their alloys and they send all scrap to a refiner.

They have acquired WJT at April last year, the production facility is in Warwick, RI.
Of course, that's indeed not saying they will take it.
