Also known as washing soda or soda ash.

Where can I get this chemical ? I looked at my local grocery store and I found nothing containing washing soda. Any products or brands names ?

Thanks a lot.

Noxx,
I have some given to me with pool
chemicals so you could check with
a pool supply place.Do you have
pools up there in Canada? Or are
they all skating rinks?

And carry a snow shovel in our backpacks, just in case we get stuck. It's nice about every 20 years or so when the snow melts for a few months.

Haven't find any yet but I'll make some myself as usual...

I'll heat Sodium BIcarbonate (baking soda) to about 100°C, it will decomposes to Sodium Carbonate anhydre.

Thats it :D

how long and can this be done in the kitchen oven
thanks

Not that long... The reaction occurs very fast at 200°C. I would say that in one hour, you're sure that all the baking soda is now sodium carbonate.

HI all,
I use a small size MUFFIN pan. I empty the Baking Soda into the empty muffin holes till flush with top. Place in oven pre heated at 400 deg.. When the tray is placed in oven in a short time you'll see BUBBLES coming up out of the baking soda. When the BUBBLES do stop. they now turn into cakes. Turn off oven an let cool. Remove tray. When needed, remove the cake and break up into a powder. It works very well.

I saw sodium carbonate at Walmart in the pool supplies. It was called pH UP made by Spa Time. I don't remember the price.
