Hi everyone,
Im new here and appreciate your help before i start ....
I have accumulated some gold scrap over the years and its kind of sorted ... (boards, pins and other plated parts. chips, and so).
I would like to start and process this parts, thinking the best way would be AP ... as i have time and easy for me to get.
question here - can i use distilled water collected from AC? would it be safe to use for the entire refinement process ? the water cost here is twice the acid and im trying to reduce cost.
Now about dissolving the gold I would use HCL and bleach (i cannot get Nitric).
I also appreciate if you can direct me to some more knowledge about AP and waste controlling for AP.... I have so many questions here that some focused knowledgewill answer most.

thank you

Welcome to us.
There is no need for distilled water in the AP process as you are using HCl which is high in Chlorides.
The AP process is very easy and cheap and you really do not need to add much if any water.
Just add a piece of corroded Copper and HCl, add air from an aquarium air bubbler and you are good to go.
AC water is good to use for refining,
one need to filter out any organics if it is not stored airtight or other wise are stored too long.
If you can not get Nitric, strong Peroxide or Pool Chlorine are good alternatives.
Bleach works, but has the downside of being a strong Alkali and may neutralize the HCl if one use to much.

We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/dealing-with-waste.10539/
