Hi All,

While looking into spot testing in a bit more detail I came across an article with methods developed by Dr. Mark Lever.

Appendix 9: Spot Tests for Common Metals

I guess it is called Electrolytic Spot Testing, but I am not a 100% sure about that. These tests are used for qualitative testing only.

Does anyone have experience with this? Is there any major advantages and/or disadvantages in using any of these methods for testing?

Looking forward to hear from you all.

Almost all of the tests described require specialized test papers or chemicals. The test for gold still uses stannous chloride, but it's an interesting alternative to using a stone.
