Will stainless steel as basket in a sulfuric cell cause problems?

Short answer is it will get eaten up relatively fast in sulphuric under a current. Just like copper it will be even more aggressive if the solution is the slightest dilute in water.

I have had success with it in the past but a lot of time wasted.

I recall one time years ago GSP stated they used big racks made with piano wire for large parts. That's the only time I ever remember anyone ever saying anything about not using copper.
