When I did a stannous test, it hesitated, why would it do that, my SMB will not drop the gold either !!
 
If by hesitate, you mean that the stannous test was slow to react, two reasons come to mind. 1st is that your stannous chloride is weak. That happens when it gets old. 2nd is that there just might not be very much gold in solution.
 
If your stannous was good and there is gold in solution the test is very quick.

I have seen time and time again refiners testing solution with stannous and they get a slow delayed reaction because what the stannous is indicating is platinum. I’ve seen it enough to call it the creeping stain.

Stannous chloride only shows results for Platinum when the gold is dropped because the gold reaction masks the platinum reaction.

If the metabisulfite isn’t dropping gold and you did your de-NOx, maybe you are seeing the creeping stain and it’s platinum.
