I'm thinking of starting refining with cats. I saw a Modern Marvels episode and got the bug... and it was "easy".

So, I've searched around the site and did not find what kind of cats are the "correct" ones. I've read some threads and a pinned .pdf -a kind of old data, I think.

Imports are supposed to be better than domestic, the worst are supposed to be the aftermarket ones, there is allot of information here on the forum, welcome you have allot of reading to do, do not forget to read the safety pages, Laser Steve has nice video's on his sight, also you have to read Hokes book, Gustavus has some nice recent forums that may help also,.

I know you came here to refine metals not take a college coarse in reading and studying, but once you start if this is what you are really interested in you will be trying to find anything you can get your hands on to read, and believe me there is plenty of it here on this forum to keep you busy for quite some time, just keeping up with all these folks and the information they bring here is challenging.

This forum is definitely a treasure. No doubt. And the reading has just begun. :p

By imports you mean not from USA? Cause in my country all cars are imports.  So when I'll go to a scrap yard, I'll seek for a regular -say European- cat? Small/big?

Cats rank right at the top as one of the hardest things to refine. I think if I was just starting out , I would start off with a little bit easier material to learn with. Say for instance , gold fingers or ceramic cpus , but thats just my opinion.

Your opinion is surely respected. As a matter of fact I was thinking how and where to sell platinum since it's more expensive than gold or silver. I definitely prefer gold. I decided to go with cats as I watched it to be an easy procedure. I can look on YouTube for the documentary and post it here too.

I'll search the forum for the gold fingers and the ceramic CPUs. Thanks. :D
