Storing Nitric

Hello All.

Under ideal conditions store nitric in dark glass bottle.

However I have a nice dark brown bottle from the hydrogen peroxide I have used. Anyone know for certain will homemade nitric acid store in a HDPE bottle?

Yes, it will store provided it is of low concentration, 25% or less. Anymore, and (especially if 90% or more) and the bottle will become brittle as the acid oxidizes the polymer.


The best storage medium for nitric acid, or any acid of any strength is opaque FEP bottles (a fluoropolymer). They are expensive. I bought 20 such bottles for a good price a while back.

Wow. They should make the bottles out of gold. It might be cheaper. A hundred bucks for a little plastic bottle to store nitric in. HMMMMMM
