Strange Outcome

I recently dcleaned some cpu's with nitric and washed completely.I dissovled the gold leftovers with hcl/cl and after about ten minutes before all the gold was dissolved it became a dark brown colour.I added more hcl and cl and it became golden again i stirred and it became dark brown again .Can you over dissolve gold and it dropps out or what can be the cause of this ?
