Telephone ?

Curious if anyone has scrapped any telephone room (switch gear)?. Not sure what they call them but they have rows of flat pins that the wires get pushed down in and and can be pulled and moved to another. Almost galvanized looking. Pretty hard. Non Magnetic. Had 3 small pieces in HCL with a yellow color and not much if any action and then diluted with H20 and still not much action. No nitric yet. Any ideas?

I believe that they are plated copper.

Thanks guys, that's what I had. I figured I was wasting time but did them while watching TV with my fiance. They are showing copperish now. Any idea what the plating is?

they are brass

The plating is most likely tinned. If you put it in HCL the silver should get digested and leave the copper behind. If it doesnt digest the copper its silver plated.

I know the base metal is brass,,, I never though about silver as being the coating .
now where did I put that nitric?? :roll:

Flash Plating came off in Hyd. & H20. Likely tin, can I use this for stannous?

Not advisable to use that because of possible contaminants.

Thanks. I'll dump the tbsp. of solution in the stock pot and the rest'll go in the brass pile.

I think that it is a zink coating and I sell them as brass
