When I’m out prospecting and get distracted by all the other cool rocks.

Let’s load this thread up with cool rock picks.

Anyone find one with visible gold?

I didn't expect such beauty and variety! Can't say i see any visible gold, i don't have my eye formed for gold yet but i definetly see some nice pieces of quartz.
The stones are amazing, i got a lot of small stones i collected with time but i didn't think about metals when collecting them but simply have different kinds of rocks in my collection.

Thanks, it was raining out and the rocks always look better wet. They say it’s very rare to find quartz or a similar ore with visible gold, like a little vein, so I’m curious to know if anyone here has found one.

Wow-look at that! Do you use anything particular to clean it up to look that way?
Before and after I use a product called Whink available at your local hardware store. Rubber gloves and eye protection a must about a week soak in a plastic jar. Do not! get on your bare skin or in your eyes read the label and follow instructions. It's hard to believe that anyone can buy this off the shelf there is some harsh chemicals in this.

Dang…very cool. How do you dispose of the Whink?
I am very scared of HF - hydrofluoric acid. Whink is a weak solution of HF plus other things. So my suggestion is not from first-hand experience, here goes......
Put an excess of quartz rock into the fluid for a long time until it stops reacting. Then dispose of thoughtfully.

I have seen youtube videos of people dissolving quartz away with a hot slurry of NaOH - sodium hydroxide - drain cleaner. Still quite dangerous, but easy to dispose of.

What is Whink made of?

Made with hydrofluoric acid (a notoriously harsh but hard-working cleaning agent), Whink is a heavily diluted version that doesn't just fade a rust stain—it completely removes it.

I love the crazy dangerous chemicals you can buy over the counter in the USA.

Guys Nice looking gold ore You have, congrats.

I up load some ore i collect from Texas

Texas??

Yes there is gold in Texas
mostly in presidio county west Texas
and Plano , north of San Antonio
and Guadalupe mountain.

Just read the terrain and look for the smalls detail
the terrain will tell you where to look for.

hydrofluoric acid - Bad stuff. Note he said 'plastic jar'. I worked in a plant that had used the stuff. The windows were all heavily frosted from the fumes. Just look at what that heavily diluted stuff did to the mineral samples pictured. Be careful with it.
