Hi guys,
I let my smb set overnight as suggested by one of the members. I think I might have used to much. I did not see any black powder in there after I filtered it off. Just a white/yellowish paste. Should I desolve it in water and hcl and then ad more smb? I have no clue. Please help

The precipitate can include CuCl which is soluble in conc. HCl. Try adding and see if something remains

First of all, what does stannous testing tell you? Any gold in solution?

If not, pour off the clear liquid before trying anything else. Better get rid of junk before going further.

Telling us what went into that beaker, how much and what you did in the previous steps would also help to get a better answer.
How much gold did you expect to get and how much SMB have you put into the beaker could also help.
You know but we are just guessing and assuming, and that is an easy way to make mistakes.

Frugal have written about how to ask questions to get a good answer.
