All,

Again while manually dismanting my lot, we collected 840g of mixed T0 types of transistors with gold plating, the cap, and inside the cap there are some tiny gold wires.

Per discussed methods use to process large lots of these scraps. i followed to test boiling few of them in a small beaker using 50/50 nitric acid, it is very violent, at room tempreture lots of foaming, and heat, so I let it boil for 2 hrs adding nitric during the process to compensate, after that gold foils, and white silica layers remain and all others steel caps got dissolved.

I will try attacking them using sulfuric and nitric so how that goes,

Here are some picture of type of scraps, but will follow the processing in chemicals section of this board,

Best regards,
Kevin

That's a good item. A place I worked got several drums of loose scrap TO5's a month from a transistor manufacturer. I'm thinking we ran them in about 30-40%, by volume, nitric/60 water in a SS tumbling barrel in a SS tank. I'm also thinking it wasn't necessary to heat them since, once they got going, the solution got plenty hot.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your comments. I already read that post. I just did not have the ss beaker so I ran them in a small beaker.

Best regards
Kevin
