Unidentified metal

Grinding ore today and this was in the barrel. Metallic, non magnetic. Specific gravity between 5&6. Dissolved readily in nitric. Stannous test was colorless. Tested negative for silver. Any ideas? Thank you

Looks like a nodule of magnetite. Next one you find, put it to a grinding wheel, and see if it emits any sparks.

But it was non magnetic. Magnetite generally is, correct? I’m wondering about chromium as it has been known to be in the area.

There are numerous tests to determine various minerals. Since the piece is now gone, who really cares. Do you still have the acid solution?

Add a couple of drops of Sulfuric to the dissolved metal.
It might be some kind of Lead alloy.

It still can be an alloy with Lead, Zinc is whiter if I remember correct.

I agree. But it can not be lead, as major part, due to the density. Zink gets gray by the time. 10-15% lead max if density 5-6.

Perhaps he can test his soloution with reaction serie. By testing downwards you get to the point someting drops out.
