Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this site, however I have lurked here for many months learning and studying various types of processes to refine sliver and possibly gold in the near future.

A little about myself... I'm in my thirties, have 1 kiddo, am married, and work a full time job as a facilities manager. I have an extensive background in engineering, especially in the HVAC field and am licensed in the State of Texas. I had been looking for an interesting hobby that may also make me some money as well. I began metal detecting a few years ago and have found quite a few interesting things over time, especially a lot of silver. However, after collecting a large stash of old and damaged silver items I had no idea what to do with them. After some time and some research I decided to try my luck at refining the silver.

So far I have refined a little over 50 ounces of sterling silver using the 50/50 nitric acid method, which I use a high grade copper wire to precipitate the silver from the silver nitrate. I have also melted this silver cement into bars as well, but I am still practicing on making a good pour and nicer looking bars. I am currently in the process of building a stainless steel silver cell at the moment, and once I obtain some more silver to digest I will get it up and running and hope to share my experiences and photos with everyone on the site.

Anyways, just wanted to say hello and give a little background about myself in case anyone see's me post in the future. I also want to say thank you for all your efforts and your dedication to share information for the rest of us. Without your contributions to this community, myself and I'm sure many others, would not have the knowledge required to make the splash into what is becoming a really fun hobby for me.

Regards,
