I was out and bought some Stone Mason effloursence cleaner. It was quite cheap and now I know why. it is only 10% hcl and pink in color. Can I still use this for AP or HCL and Bleach.
It does not seem to do anything when mixed with 3% h202.

Can someone tell me the name of a product available in canada that is 30-35%. Does anyone use the Rona hyrdochloric?

The product you listed shows on the MSDS that the solution of HCL is between 5-10% and their is another solution listed as NONYLPHENOL 1%.
It fails to say what is the other 89%. This is a mild acid.
I do not think you will get good results with this solution and it may take longer to work your metal.

Look at Home Depot for Muriatic Acid. It is mostly kept outdoors in the garden section. This would work much better.

Your in Canada so ask Noxx where he gets his HCl or look up the nearest swimming pool supply store for the Muriatic acid.

AP made some AP with it last night. It tooks hours for it to start a reaction. As a test I but about half of a gold plated sound blaster board let it sit over night when I went back this morning it was almost entirely. I did almost a 1:1 with hcl and peroxide.

I've found that home hardware seems to always have muriatic acid in stock - for those of us in canada.

One reason it took so long would be you processed the entire board.
AP is best used for removal of gold from the board fingers or edges that have a base metal of copper. AP eats at the copper, thus freeing up the gold plated on top.
If you process the entire board, then the solution will eat at the copper from the entire board, which will take longer.
If there is no gold seen on the rest of the board, cut the edge off and just process the edges.

If you have gold areas on parts of the board, I cut the gold areas out and just process them. This also helps reduce the junk that falls into the bottom of the solution and stuff you will have to filter out later. It will work somewhat faster.

One way to process an entire board would be to first process for silver using NA, then process for gold using HCL and Clorox, and follow up with an AP wash to remove any bits of copper.

You can order HCL online from Lowes at
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=77774-1327-332

Hope that helps,

You can get 32.5% (if I recall over 30% anyways) Muriatic at Canadian Tire in the paint section. I have some we use it as a driveway cleaner.

You can't miss it it's the only 4 L jug warapped in heavy plastic. The label is plain blue and white.

Man, you guys up there go thru alot more than us to get good reagents.
Think outside the box.
Conversions can be made.

He could just buy it from Anachemia, but Manitobans are cheap, we're known to be cheap. Sorry "thrifty" is probably a better word.

Anachemia only sells case lot and has a minimum purchase requirement, discouraging nickel and dime walk in's.

excellent buy at Canadian tire... 4 litres. 31% under $9. The weak crap I bought at walmart was 12 something. This stuff should work nice. I got some 6% peroxide last night. Git R Done. Gonna go and try to find the 27% peroxide stuff at the pool store soon.

Will hcl dissolve base metals when it is NOT heated?... aka crockpot method

It is hard to find it over 27 or 29% now in Arizona. The brand at Lowes is only 14%. I have been buying mine at a pool supply and it is 29%.
