I have some boards that each have 10 of these on them. I opened one up and it has a roll of fiber with a greyish metallic coating on one side, rolled very tight. They are in some type of liquid.(oil ?).

I am wondering if some one can tell me about these parts. I don't know what to google for. I will have five hundred of them when I am done clearing the boards. Trash or treasure?

Any help appreciated. Mike

Capacitors, Electrolytic I think from the ratings on the top.

Ive heard on some rare cases they might contain palladium, although I cannot verify whether those do.

I will test the foil later today and see what colour the stannous changes to. The foil should just vanish in straight HCL if it is aluminum right?

If it survives HCL , would a few crystals of potassium nitrate in the HCL on the spot plate be sufficient to generate a reaction? I will report back after the test.

Yeah no value here. You can get 135 in a kit for $9.99. Into the aluminum bin they go!

Be careful with the oil from these as they are known to contain PCB's, a highly carcinogenic substance.
