A friend of mine showed me a video on his phone, from a guy who processed some edge connectors, along with some cpu sockets. All he did was soak these parts in HCL over night, poured the solution off and hit it with SMB (after diluting the solution with water).
What he ended up with was some fluffy looking brown/tan powder.
What is the powder?

You also don't have the process correct. What you described does not work, and it's not going to work, regardless of your expectations. I recommend you start reading the forum and Hoke's book, so you'll gain an understanding of what is involved in processing gold.

What you described is but a tiny portion of the entire process, with critical procedures having been ignored. For instance, HCl will not dissolve gold (although combined with an oxidizer, it does).
