Hello everybody, I'm new to this. I have a whole bunch of 52K modem cards I've pulled from old computers. I would like to know what I need to do with these to get them ready for any kind of chemical baths. I watched the video on removing the flat packs, I'm sure I am to keep those, crush them up and add them to the bath, correct? What about the other component on the board such as the compacitors and such? Do I keep those or do I just pluck them off of the circuit board and throw them away?

Any advice would be well appreciated.

Double posting will not get you an answer any quicker, if you lack patience then precious metals refining may not be for you.

Thanks, Gill. I have deleted the other post.

Grab a copy of Hokes book on refining precious metals wastes to read while you wait for a reply. Look for member palladium, the link to the book is in his signature file.

your question is well covered on forum just keep on reading. use search function and you will be surprised how much info is already here...

Sorry, I did not mean to double post, I just didn't know where to post my question. Many forums have rules about what gets posted where and frown at out of context posts, I would have removed my other post but I don't yet know how.

I just did a search for circuit boards and my own post was brought up. I will try other keywords and see if they help. Thanx

browse through types of pm scrap section, i am sure you will find posts even with photos. are your boards all the same type? you can upload picture with your question and somebody will answer what is valuable on it. do you want to reclaim plating from board itself? plating is very thin, probably not worth doing it in home without proper equipment and technology. i suggest to take flatpacks, chips, pins, monolithic capacitors and cut out plated finger. your board can be sold even without these but for lower price.

Most very awesome! Thank you very much for your advice, most of my boards are old 52K modem cards, but I also have some mother board and old memory sticks. I saw the video on how to remove the flat packs, but I wasn't sure if some of the other components were of any value. I'm only doing this as a hobby to occupy time that might in the long run provide value. I've heard people on here talk about pulling fingers but I wasn't sure what those were. Now I see that they are to connecting edge of the modem card and that they are cut out, not pulled. That was rather misleading; unless there are fingers elsewhere on a computer that you actually pull.
