Todays trip to the scrap yard wasn't glorious but I did find the shell of some sort of Siemens instrument with some connector boards still attached. Nice Mil Spec connectors, some tantalum caps and some large MLCCs. There are also three of these and I have no idea what they are or their content. The codes on them are so small I can't make them out with a magnifying glass.
Any ideas?

Those are Voltage Spike protection devices that use a Spark Gap. You can see the electrodes, and if you look closely, you will see a tiny gap between them.
 
Thanks Irons - that makes sense. Is there a proper device name so I can look up what they are made of or do you know, that is is there a PM consideration?
