Hi, I have several ounces of gold crowns, inlays and bridges I would like some advice on, its all yellow gold. Would it be smarter to find a refinery to get the gold or try to do it myself? Is there a certain technique that would work best for this type of gold? I searched for a post on this sort of situation and could not come up with one so I hope this is not a boring repeat for you all. Thanks a bunch!
Tim

Hi Tim88,

First welcome to the forum! You have found the best place on the internet to learn about refining. The key is that this is a place to learn whether it's complete armatures learning the basics too the pros exercising their intellect by teaching others to everyone in between we are are involved in learning and hopefully helping one another. Sometimes helping to work through an odd problem or new challenge, sometimes to protect someone from hurting themselves.
The link below will take you to the guided tour where you will find enough information to keep you busy for quite some time. It includes the information to find the answer to your question by the way, but I would encourage you to read through all the links before you pluck that gem from the archives, my favorite post on this was done by Harold at Lou request if memory serves. After reading this information you will discover you need to read Hoke's great book (also linked on that page) and it took me a couple of times through the book before I started doing all the acquaintance experiments. You may be much faster at this than I am of course.
If you find half the enjoyment I have in learning here you will love it. If you find that this is more than you want to get into you are still in the company of honorable folks who can offer to refine your material for a fair rate with accurate returns. Outside of here there be dragons, you will want to be very clear about charges and accountability before you ship your material. You may also find a buyer here if you want to trade your metals for Federal reserve notes...I mean money.
After you invest the time in some study there is no question you can't get answered here.
Be safe
Have fun
All the best,
John
