white powder precipitans

i saw a film in u-tube about gold stippers and the man used a white precipitant----he did not tell what was the the precipitant---could anyone help me with this---I usually use zinc powder---thanks to menbers----------------------------------------------------------------------Arthur Kierski

Lino,it is alkaline----i thought it might be a zinc salt
