The only way you can get scammed,is if you buy something without knowing what you are doing.....and it is painfully clear that you have no clue whatsoever about what you are doing.
You got lucky this time,it was a good deal. But from now on,you need to do your own research BEFORE buying anything. A fool and his money are easily parted.
The guy I bought it from doesn't know about gold recovery, nor that this can be used for that. He showed me a box with many ceramic 486, but I chosen only the gold plated back, because I had read there has up to 0,15 gr/each.
This pic shows what I've bought. Should I buy more ceramics like this, but not gold plated, at the same price? And what about the non-ceramic?
Question is why do you buy them. Easy answer to your question may be compare for what they go on ebay. Simply try to find auctions there to see how much others pay. It is worth to remember that most of the time ebay price is bigger than real value inside chips. Another clue may be websites of other people who buy stuff to check their prices. Try this: http://www.thriftybits.com/
Prices he pay for chips may be close to 50-70% of real value of what is in them. It mean that if you buy for price he pay you may did good. It all depend on your next step. If you plan to sell you need to find somebody who pay more. If you want to try and recover gold of them you may even lose part if not all of your investment - it all depend on your skills.
Study, read, test. Do not jump in water before you can swim.
I'll try to buy/get some more of these. If I got a nice quantity, I'll may try to recover the gold; else, I will just sell them on ebay. It would be stupid to try to recover such and small batch.
