...with H-perox also does not have this problem. But it is a costly reagent, compared to free air. I have the regenerator bucket outside behind the shed. As I am planning to build/buy an oxygen concentrator soon, I think pure oxygen will probably speed it up to leave it running in the fume hood.

...beeps) and 15ppm. Relates to max exposure time at those levels. In fairness to try to set one off you've got to have the sniffer right over a vessel. There's no point having one inside a hood whatsoever, they should be used for ambient (if that's the correct word) atmosphere in the work area.

Just a word of caution here, check the temperature of that motor that drives your blower. I had not one, but TWO, of those things reaching very high temps very quickly. When I emailed the amazon seller they tried to tell me the unit had thermal protection, but it was over 200 degrees in a very...

    Hi from Margaret River

I have built a fume hood and have started playing with reverse electroplating following some of the guides on youtube and trying to workout a process that will work for...

    Cyanide and sodium thiosulfate reaction

...Thanks for your reply. I used the Hokes method to test for gold in cyanide solution, I siphoned 2.5ml of pregnant cyanide solution, under fume hood, added 2.5 ml of HCL, the color changed to yellow, then using a Q tip, I collected the solution, and added stannous chloride testing solution...

    Fume Hood Fan Speed Doubt

The fan is a 12 inch inline fine so it is made to connect to 12 inch ducting. I would connect 12 inch ducting to it but am constrained by the building construction and do not have a way to duct it to the outside with 12 inch piping (I didn't think about using hose though). I can only drill a 6...

Yes, gold extraction and...

Advice needed how or who what is best 3kg pt/pd wash coat

...I've attached some pictures of the wash coat. all so of the xrf test results some in mining mode and some in general metals. I have two pp fume hoods and one 20kg propane forge and some knowledge, but far from an expert. Ive all so read Hoke's book on refining and watched every video on...

...the exhaust and does not need to be chemical resistant. If a person cannot find a decent design via web search, all they need to do is look at the nozzle for a placer mining suction dredge. Designing an efficient hood is another matter. An ideal design would be for laminar flow inside the hood.

    Fume Hood Exhaust

Another benefit of outside air powering this type of hood exhaust is the amount of room air removed, which is even more precious in heating season, is much less. When I was using this type of exhaust I exhausted straight up and out the roof, no bends just up and out. The. best rain cap for...

Can gas mask prevent acid fume?

Firstly I want to say that a fume hood and a good ventilator along with a good scrubber are crucial. But sometime when open acid bottle in the open air, or somehow some fume got leaked, and you can smell it, very light, but there is acid fume in the evironment. Is this mask at least useful? Or...

Looking for an Acid Resistant Paint

I have had a heckuva time looking for and trying to find an acid-resistant paint for plywood for my fume hood that I am building that is resistant to more, especially aqua regia. Acrylic will not work because it is very susceptible to breaking down in aqua regia. Epoxy seems to be the best...

...and some companies either give them away or sell on the cheap. I think there's a forum member that posted a picture of a 55 gallon drum fume hood. It's large enough for a single hot plate, but small enough that it wouldn't require an over size extractor fan. That's what I used when I...

Of course, some fan is better than no fan, that is for sure. But I will not "cheapskate" this, since reliable hood is one of the most necessary...

...on ignition? I think a lot of chlorides are acidic, but I’d probably start with dilution of a small sample & see what’s soluble and what’s not. I might heat a very, very small sample on a hotplate under a fume hood or in a boiling flask under a fume hood I’d also start small and keep notes

Again take this as help and not criticism. Anything metallic within your hood will rust and rot rapidly and having controls or plugs inside the hood is a really bad idea as the metallic parts will again be attacked. If your fan is a standard fan then again you are tempting fate as it will fail...

Where in Canada or the States can you get Aqua Regia training ?

I'm buying around a kilo of scrap a week, and that number is growing. So I hope that gets me into the commercial level you mention, so getting someone to train me is pretty important. If you have any contacts at all, please let me know

    Fume Hood Exhaust

Absolutely, maintaining a safe and efficient lab environment is paramount. Pulling air from outside the lab, ideally from a wall opposite the hood vent, is a smart move to bolster the effectiveness of the blower system. This strategic airflow improves ventilation and minimizes the risk of...

They are feeling it, but i suppose most lab hardware has a shelf life when we ask it to work around the chemicals we use. I like @AuggieDog setup with the ported flask bungs. Takes up a little more real estate but i coudl get rid of the clamps.
