AP Waste Solution will not clear - dirty transmission oil

You hit the nail firmly on the head here Rattle. As sure as eggs are eggs the ONE thing you don't label is the one thing that causes you issues. I feel your pain. Deeply.

The stock pot or not ??????

...out on more reactive metals, it has nothing to do with saturation of salt in solution, only with the reactivity series. This is leaving your AP with cemented copper and (probably) iron chloride that will now act as a leach. As any copper salt will be displaced as long as there is metal iron...

Help with potential profits of RAM scrap

Do I get it right if the peroxide gets exhausted and there will be base metals in the solution that adding peroxide later on will only lengthen the duration because the base metals where the gold is cemented on need to be dissolved again?

    Question about gold plated pins

Since time is not important, smaller batches might be more controllable. And you can have multiple batches at the same time.

Electronic boards from cellphone and computer

Very well said. As many grow into large scale they tend to forget some of the most basic processes at times. I always used AP on boards with idea in mind that it is a long term process. Even then selectively choosing what boards were to be processed. More a step in the retirement plan method...

    I guess you'd call it a Copper(II)Chloride generator?

...to see if the plastic fittings I used on the poly hose were acid proof. I opened the lid when I got home feom work this evening and found that the AP solution ate the tee fitting I used on the nice circular aerator I made 😳. I deleted that and just dunked the hose down to the bottom. Lesson -...

    time necessary to dissolve e-scrap

I too have gathered several pounds of this type of material. I was planning on doing a test batch of 1 Kilo into a large beaker with leftover CuCl2 (AP) and an air bubbler once the weather improves. Are you guys thinking weeks or months to fully dissolve the base metal?

Looking for direction on how to process these gold items

The all metal ones can be done in a Sulfuric cell. The PCB's in AP, Nitric or even Cyanide if you can access it and follow protocols strictly.

My results of specific types of IC chips, flatpacks and BGA

Hi, magnetic pins or as you said those who rust, are better deplated using a sulfuric cell rather than AP. The AP process is best for pins which for substrate have copper or copper based alloys. Usually is used with closed containers in well ventilated areas.

Lye doesn’t leach gold, so where is it!

Well after a 24 hour soak in HCl (not AP), this is how they look. I’m starting to be convinced gold (dust perhaps?) is in the lye solution. I’ll put these aside for now and filter off the lye solution. Check the solids out. Maybe acidify the solution to see if SMB will drop anything. Question...

...people with sandals working with chemicals, although their yield wasn’t much but the method was much faster. I’ve watched sreetips doing the AP solution, but that may take weeks until the foils come loose and since it was my first time I wanted to see results quick. I really don’t mind reading...

AP Waste Solution will not clear - dirty transmission oil

Not too bad, but try to follow the waste protocol. You need to push the pH up to around 10/11 ish if I remember correct, then filter and lower the pH more and filter again. It is all in the waste thread. It has to do with the solubility of the different Hydroxides.

Fully dissolving plated pins or just enough to remove foils.

I stop trying dissolving pins unless they are really thin. Even then AP may be cheapest process even though it literally take ages. There are better ways to extract gold from pins without creating buckets of waste solutions which you will need to deal with eventually.

    Recovered gold

Hi all, question please. I've accumulated about 10 grams of scrap gold from jewellery and watches using the AP process. It's mainly dust, foil and small flakes. I'm not ready for AR yet but am wondering if I can melt the 10 grams into a blob for easier and safer storing. Any advise would be...

    Curiousity, Silver capped contacts.

...200ml to each, no change. But there was some reaction. Today I am cleaning it up and checking it. Both beakers same time equal volumes. (Also cleaning up my gold foils from AP) right now. I'll get a closer look in a while at the silver contacts, I'm interested why copper appears on silver...

Just a Newbie thirsty for knowledge

With watches, the cases can be way to thick to process in AP. I advice to process anything more solid than 2mm in a copper sulfate cell or concentrated sulfuric stripping cell. Do you have thin sheet metal bracelet links, made from bent sheet metal, or solid metal links and cases?

    Potassium cyanide with hydrogen peroxide

Second important reason is when using AP, a lot of gold foil stuck on pins and it took a lot of work to get them, and some pins made from steel not dissolution so can't get the gold foil plated on them by using AP.

Is Sodium hydroxide best solution to git rid of tin and lead?

Yes, HCl to take the Tin and then AP to remove the foils. But I have never been in a hurry.

    Gold plate on RF connectors

AP will work, but it'll take forever. A stripping cell will strip those in couple of hours. I know they look awesome, but don't expect very much gold from 2 Kilo's.

    Question about gold plated pins

...HCL wash and two hot water rinses to 1 Kg of cleaned gold plated pins. These pins were then put into this beaker/basket/bubbler set up. Discussion about video in recovery of gold from used filter papers

The filter papers retain a slight amount of liquid because papers retain liquids. So every paper has a minute quantity of liquid long since dried and containing a very very small quantity of Gold. If you just re wet those papers you will never rinse out all of the gold containing liquid all...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

The link do not function here, but I expect it would be good. My problem was that I could not find anything local in my country. I could have searched the eBay or alibaba, but assumed the freight would be too much, so I used what I had on hand.
